ABOUT
KRAN is a ensemble that plays free improvised and experimental music and is based in Bern (CH).
The aim of this artistic collaboration between four musicians is to explore new sound structures as well as to develop and test improvisational concepts. KRAN is looking for music that sounds neither contrived nor rehearsed, but gets created in the moment with a certain intimacy, roughness and authenticity. As far away as possible from clichés and learned gestures, the focus here is on direct interaction and musical communication between the four musicians. The ensemble is particularly interested in the relationship between sound and the movements involved in producing it. The musicians experiment at this boundary and try to think of music in a larger context.
KRAN has played at numerous venues, such as the improv festival zoom in Bern and FIM Basel. The ensemble plays both purely acoustic and amplified concerts.
